2010 FIFA HOST CITY : PRETORIA
Pretoria, the third capital of South Africa, is a warm city beautifully preserving the hues of its colonial days. Also known as Jacaranda City, thanks to the purple blossoms spread all throughout the city, many people still prefer to live in its quaint neighborhoods and travel everyday to neighboring city Johannesburg to earn a living.

Lying in the realm of the imposing Magaliesberg Mountains, Pretoria will be glad to shed its quaint image and host FIFA games. Impressively this city has the 2nd largest number of embassies in the world while having all modern facilities for education, entertainment, sports etc.

PLACES TO VISIT:
A must visit is the Pretoria Art Museum having every known & unknown piece of South African art form. Vast collection of art books, international art exhibitions & conferences, everything happens here. Another museum worthy of mention is the National Cultural History Museum which is now referred as the “African Window.” As a centre for living culture, focusing on the diversity of the country’s cultures and history of its people, this place has an exhibit starting from Stone Age to modern times.

Hosting the oldest & most classy colonial era buildings is Menlo Park with ample options for their shopping & dining needs. The Blue Train on the other hand is South Africa’s equivalent to the Orient Express which is another experience people must try if they’re willing to shell out the money for it.

Other places worth visiting are: Kruger House Museum, Pretoria National Botanical Gardens and Pretoria National Zoological Gardens. If one has time, at short distances from the city center, one can visit Rietvlei Nature Reserve and Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve.

TRAVELLING WITHIN THE CITY:
Pretoria is a relatively safer place in comparison to Jo’burg. Hiring local cabs or keeping all day car rentals is a good option. However it is still advisable not to use local buses as a mode of transport.

NIGHTLIFE & ENTERTAINMENT:
Hatfield Square mainly takes the attention of people who wish to enjoy a nightout. The entire square is lined with dining options, cafes, nightclubs & bars. Tourists, locals and students throng this place regularly.

LIVING & ACCOMODATION:
Pretoria has some good neighborhoods like Annlin, Brooklyn and Clydesdale. However the most prominent of them all is Arcadia. From the best of inns, lodges to the grandest of five star accommodations, one can find it all here, including easy reach to embassies, museums and shopping areas.

Hatfield Square is another area where one can try for accommodations, which also happens to be one of the best shopping areas of the city.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium - Pretoria

Loftus Versfeld in the heart of Pretoria, has a seating capacity of 45,000. There is not much needed for the stadium to be ready for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It is also a venue for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

The site on which Loftus Versfeld is located was first used for sport in 1903. It was named after Mr Robert Owen Loftus Versfeld, who is attributed with establishing organised sport in Pretoria. It has been used for numerous sports events including the 1995 Rugby World Cup and 1996 CAF Africa Cup of Nations. It is now used by Mamelodi Sundowns as their home ground.

Often simply referred to as Loftus, it has served as a venue for many international matches. South Africa achieved their first victory over a European opposition at Loftus Versfeld, beating Sweden 1-0. From June 13th to 25th, 5 FIFA Matches will be played in this stadium. FIFA Match Schedules
